This is the "ONLY" rescue/shelter for animals in Bolivia
Many persons have a strong bond with animals and Susana Carpio is one of these persons. Ever since she was a young girl she learned from her father to respect and love her pets. As she grew up, she constantly helped animals that were hurt, sick or took in stray puppies. This reality made her look for an animal protection group (1995), where she could help animals in a more efficient way. She was disappointed to find that there wasn't one institution that was willing to work actively and in a committed manner to help animals. In June 1995, she decided to put together a new group that started at first with three people who would go to a case a day. However, because the community got to know the work that was being done by these three volunteers the demand for this kind of work grew rapidly
The letter and photo's below were sent to me by Susanna Cirpio, founder of this rescue. As many of you know Susanna and the volunteer ladies of S.O.S. Animales make the beautiful traditional Incan Aquayo cloth Greyhound coats, many of our Grey's now wear.
Susanna wanted to show her appreciation and share with us what "all of our" support have accomplished for the animals in her care. Every dollar they have earned from the sale of these coats to Hearts & Hounds, and from each purchase of these beautiful coats by the Greyhound community, have gone to improve the shelter. A new building (kennel) is being built, and almost finished at the time these photo's were taken. All the funding for this building is because of "your generosity" in purchasing these coats.
Because of you! Susanna and her volunteers were able to rescue 40 animals from some of the most horrific situations you could imagine. Many of the larger breed dogs are addicted to drugs and used as guard dogs. In the photo's you will see a couple of the newest residents to be rescued.
Susanna and the volunteers just returned from the lowland where they rescued many animals from the flooding. Susanna and the volunteers save all manner of animals. Susanna recently suffered a very nasty bite from a small monkey she rescued that had been abused for many years. She did not blame the monkey, she faulted the person who abused this little creature.
