NATURAL SLATE

HAND PAINTED!

Natural slate is one of the most costly roofing materials used in construction today. The slate I use for this artwork are natural stone, either new or used. The new slates are approx. 9"x18" with 2 pre drilled holes allowing for the slate to be nailed in a vertical position. (size W & L vary slightly). The used slate were salvaged from a 100+ year old home. They vary in width and length due to the fact they were hand cut, unlike today's roofing slate. They also, were drilled to hang vertically. These slates are black, and have a lovely vintage look, due to 100+ years exposed to Pennsylvania weather. Slates that hang horizontally have been drilled to allow a hanger to be attached. These slates are a little more fragile due to their age, and will be sealed completely.

Each hand painted slate offers an original design or design from reference photography with permission of the owner. All have heavy gauge copper wire, free formed as the hanger. Over time the copper will take on a greenish patina for a vintage look. Each is sealed with a clear coat, and can be hung outside under a covered porch, for years of enjoyment.  Or, hang indoors as a welcome invitation to your home.

NOTE: DO NOT HANG SLATE IN DIRECT SUN LIGHT, SUN LIGHT WILL FADE AND DAMAGE THE PAINT OVER TIME. IF HUNG OUTDOORS, SLATE SHOULD BE CLEAR COATED EACH YEAR OR TWO, AS A PROTECTION FOR THE PAINT. INDOOR HANGING WILL NOT REQUIRE THIS PROCEDURE. TYPE OF CLEAR COAT WILL BE SUPPLIED WITH SLATE AT TIME OF PURCHASE.
